Chute

Pieces of three and five squares, and a well that fills up.

  • Slide and turn the falling piece.
  • Close a row from wall to wall to clear it.
  • Three rows at once open the CRACK SHOT.
A game of Chute: the pile at the bottom of the well, a yellow piece falling, the next piece and the score on the right.

The pieces

Eight pieces, and never four squares: two small ones of three, six big ones of five. The next one shows on the right, under Next.

The small pieces are not there to be easy, they are there to finish. A row missing two or three squares cannot be closed with any five-square piece: the bar or the corner makes the last move.

The well

Twelve columns, fourteen rows. The piece falls on its own, one row at a time; you slide it, you turn it, and it settles as soon as it touches the bottom or the pile.

To go faster, hold the down arrow: it comes down under your hand. Or drop it in one go, and it falls straight onto the pile.

The game ends when the pile is so high that the next piece has no room to come in.

Rows

A row full from wall to wall flashes white for a moment, then vanishes; everything above drops one step. The points come right away, the moment the row closes.

The more you close at once, the more they are worth. Five at once is possible: the long bar standing up does it.

Every piece that settles is also worth 5 points, a dropped piece earns 2 points per row it falls, and a piece you push down, 1.

The CRACK SHOT

Three rows or more in one go, and the game freezes for two seconds: CRACK SHOT flashes in place of Next.

It then serves you six small pieces, the pink corner then the turquoise bar, three times over. They are not points: they are what you need to finish the rows you had started.

A CRACK SHOT landed during another one replaces it: the series starts again at six pieces.

Three rows cleared at once: CRACK SHOT shows, and the turquoise bar falls.

Levels

Every eight rows cleared, the level goes up and the piece falls a little faster: each level keeps eighty-five percent of the previous one's time.
