Onyx
Five balls, one table, and everything else is in your hands.
Hold ✓ to pull the plunger, let go to shoot.
Left and right raise the two flippers.
Eight stars in the arc earn an extra ball.
The table, target by target
The 25, 50, 75 lamps
Three openings at the top of the table. A ball passing through one clears its number until the 250.
The 250
It only appears once all three lamps are cleared. Hit it for a star, and the lamps come back.
The 100 plate
In the bend of the hooked ramp. It holds the ball for three seconds, then fires it back hard. One star.
The star arc
Eight slots along the ramp. Every big target lights a star there; the eighth earns a ball.
The bars
They drop one by one, in sets of three. A full set pays a bonus and brings out a lightning bolt.
The bumpers
They kick the ball away sharply, for ten points each time.
The 50 and 500 lanes
On each side, next to the red triangles. The 50 comes back after three seconds; the 500 pays once per ball.
The flippers
The only two things you control once the ball is in play.
The plunger
The longer you hold it, the harder the ball shoots up the right-hand lane.
Launching, and staying alive
Hold ✓ to pull the plunger, let go to shoot. The longer you hold, the harder the ball goes. After that, the left and right arrows work the two flippers.
You have five balls. The game goes on until none are left — unless you earn more, which is what the arc is for.
The three lamps, and the 250
At the top of the table, three openings read 25, 50 and 75. A ball coming down through them scores their points and clears their number.
With all three cleared, the 250 appears at the top. Hit it: it scores, it gives a star, and it brings the three lamps back so you can go again. Until it is taken, it stays there.
The star arc
An arc of eight slots runs along the hooked ramp, empty at the start. Four things light a star in it: the 250, the 100 plate, and each of the three lightning bolts.
Eight stars earn a ball. It is the only way to make a game last longer, which is why the big targets are worth more than their points.
The 100 plate
Set in the bend of the hooked ramp, it is no ordinary target. The ball is held for three seconds, over a rising sound, then fired back very hard. It scores a hundred points, and one star.
Bars and lightning bolts
The white bars drop one at a time. A dropped bar stays down until all three in its set are down: the full set then pays a bonus, and stands back up.
Dropping a whole set brings out a lightning bolt. It is worth 500, and it gives a star.
A target that is hit goes dark
Stars, bars and the 50 lane vanish for three seconds when the ball hits them, then come back. That is what gives the table its rhythm: you cannot score twice in a row in the same spot, you have to go somewhere else.
Multiplayer
Onyx plays up to four, on the same device. Pick 2, 3 or 4 players on the opening screen; Play starts a game on your own.
Turns change with every ball, each player has their own display on the panel, and the game only ends when nobody has a ball left.
Only a one-player game counts on the masters' board.
